DescriptionSpecificationsQuestions & Answers (1)
The Jacques Herbin 1670 Anniversary Ink Collection, first introduced in 2010 with the color Rouge Hematite, commemorates Jacques Herbin's 340th anniversary. The fourth color in this series is Emerald of Chivor, a dark emerald ink with flecks of gold and a deep red sheen.

Emerald of Chivor, or "Émeraude de Chivor", gets its name from the Chivor Mine in South America, which was discovered in the mid-16th century and holds one of the purest emerald deposits in the world. For centuries, precious gemstones like emeralds were regarded as talismans with protective powers. It is said that Jacques Herbin himself kept an emerald in his pocket as a good luck charm on his many seafaring voyages.

Jacques Herbin made many journeys to India and brought special wax formulas back to Paris, leading to his shop's success as a reputable sealing wax manufacturer that served Louis XIV and gained popularity throughout France. The wax seals on the cap and front of the bottle remind us of this rich history.

I have all of the 1670...

I have all of the 1670 inks and they are beyond fantastic. In my experience they perform exactly as described.

I've tried them in just about every pen I own, from throw-away Jinhaos to vintage Kawecosports to vintage Sheaffers to my favorite, the Vanishing Point. I've tried them in at least 20 different pens with various nib sizes, using converters, built-in piston fillers, and syringing into cartridges. I've tried them on every paper I can, from Tomoe River to Clairefontaine to Rhodia to Tsubame to Midori to Rite in the Rain to construction paper, newsprint, cheap filler paper, and fine laserjet stock. I apologize, but I think it's obvious I'm gushing at this point!

I have not found a pen/nib/paper combo I didn't like. Sure there's feathering on the low quality paper but that's a given. These inks are beautiful if used correctly and with patience.

Something to keep in mind though, I wouldn't use them in a pen that's not easily disassembled for cleaning. That being said, I haven't had an issue with these inks clogging a single pen, not even once. Not even after leaving one loaded for a couple weeks.

Also, my favorite converter for these inks is the Pilot Con20. There's a metal piece in the converter that slides back and forth as you tilt the pen which stirs the sparkly stuff up in a flash. With my Vanishing Points, I've found that a little mild shaking before writing with the occasional tilts back and forth every sentence or so keeps everything gorgeous and glittery.

Regarding the Emerald of Chivor, it is exactly as beautiful as it's hyped up to be. A gorgeous deep blue green with subtle silver sparkle and that amazing sheen! The sheen is this crazy red to gold depending on the angle. It's shown up at least a little in every single writing sample I've done. It shows up more where the ink pools a bit, so the less absorbent papers show it to a greater degree. Unless you're writing on paper towel or fabric, you should get at least a little of that remarkable sheen. Also, use a broad and/or wet nib for best effect.

This clogged up my Twsbi EF (very fine nib).
Works so good in my Lamy F (Very Wet nib)
The yellow and red does not come out at all on cheep paper ( Walmart spiral note book).
The Yellow comes out on nicer paper but not the red (note cards)
The Red comes out periodical it really depends on how wet the nib is (i think) on nicer paper with the yellow showing up as well. ( Black 'n Red note book)
The "glitter" take a little bit of time to get into the nib if you don't use it for wile, like a day.
Its such a nice color of blue'ish green! I love it

This ink is INSANE. I wrote a short letter with it as soon as it arrived with a glass pen, and without any effort or shaking, the blood red color can be seen throughout my writing. To get that gold sheen, I think I would have to stir up the bottle more often, but just the red and green tones alone are to die for. J. Herbin really outdid itself with this color. I also had the storm grey anniversary color which was nice, but the color pooling is really where it's at.

Amazing sheen, some care must be had with smearing although dry hands should have little effect. Clogs up drier pens and amazing when used with a flex nib fountain pen. Too heavy for dip pens, will glob and drip on the page.
